What is Trackback URL

Hi, when posting here I see a little box under my posting window while I am composing a message. The box asks for trackback URL. What is that for? Is it easy to use? Can I see an example of what somebody might type in that box, please? Thanks.
PS. I did search this forum for the word "trackback" before posting here, but I didn't find the answer. I probably should use google instead of looking like a dumb dumb, huh? :uhh:

However, I must admin I am still studying myself what they really do and what the benefits are. I know they are designed to help build backlinks, consequently improve search engine positioning.
