What's The Best Forum Setting - Twarting Multiple Login Attempts

Hi,
I was wondering how do I prevent multiple
login attempts at my forum when somebody
is just trying to guess at a password so they
can access restricted areas of the forum?

I have seen on Moneybookers website that if
you try to log in more than 3 times with the
wrong password, your account is frozen.

I have seen an option in my Admin Control Panel
in one of the free forum hosts that I've use.
The program/software is phpbb. And it offers
me to set a time limit when people mess up their
log ins and how long they have to wait before trying again.

This is a good idea, ofcourse, but is it enough? And what
setting do you recommend?

The reason I'm asking is because recently I downloaded a
free version of a shopping cart software and in the READ
ME file, it notes that the passwords can be easily guessed
because of some random multiplyer not being high enough.

I am totally lost and do not understand this.

What Forum progams/software has the best security
as far as keeping people from accessing restricted areas?

Do the Hosting companys have access to your private
information on a non paid site?

Okay, sorry about these questions. Hope they don't sound
too much like "where'd we come from":confused:

I would like to know about this also. I have been working with a coder over at directadmin to block DA logins if a user tries more than 3 times incorrectly. Would be great for forums also.
