Your online business development to a great extent depends on two things: rankings and traffic. Your site ranking and traffic are interconnected: the higher the rankings, the more traffic you get. However, getting higher rankings and traffic is not that easy.

An excellent way to achieve this, is to build one-way links from existing authoritative sites.

Be ready that it will take some effort and time on your part. However, if you know exactly where to look for those authoritative sites or similar places that may let you create links back to your site, this will be done much quicker.

Below you will find a list of some good places/sources for Authoritative One-Way link building:

3. Links from .edu and .gov sites

Great lists, thanks for sharing. I am familiar with some of the link building methods. I like the idea of getting backlinks from .edu and .gov websites. I wonder how to do it though. Do those websites accept comments from visitors?

Above are nice way to gain back links but now few have lost their importance and content spinning is not considering as good way to gain links :thumbup:

Web 2.0 sites with proper link wheel can also help you to get quality back links.

I am not sure about that. I heard that link wheels are a method of link building which Google frowns upon. I would just play safe and get backlinks from article directories.

Time to set the record clear;

Article Directories are one of the worst places you can think of for link building. Google had already stated plenty of times that articles used for the purpose of linking will not receive any credit. Many article directory sites have also shut down as they just don't carry the weight that they used to.

Google clearly states that they want NATURAL links. Any time you purchase links, that's unnatural. if you're setting up a link wheel for the purpose of tricking the search engines, guess what - that's not natural either.

If you do anything that is outside of the scope of Google, you will get found, and you will get penalized.

The days of buying links, twitter blasts, facebook likes, article drip feeds, forum profiles and creating pages just to link to each other are long gone. With Panda and Penguin, you're playing with fire if you attempt these methods.

Stop taking shortcuts! Create fresh, original content that other people actually want to read and hear and you'll build a fan base quick enough.

This are all good ideas but very general. Hard to do it and at most you get a link ( not a backlink - as most sites mentioned above have no follow )

Link Pyramid or Link Wheels, if done properly you can get more benefit out of it. Google would always keep improving its algorithm and we just have to stay away from its radar by following the guidelines.

The third point about getting links from EDU and GOV sources seems interesting and such types of links are among the most difficult types of votes to gather these days, because admins and teams of such portals usually do not moderate them commercially and unless your site has something authentic to contribute to the web, the chances of receiving bunches of links from such sources would be rare.

Since the latest Google major updates, it is important to note that quality of the incoming links as well as contents published on websites are becoming more significant issues. Number of links can still count but sometimes getting one link from a top directory will be much better than having your web address listed on dozens of directories that might not hold much weight.
