Hi there, im looking to advertise my webhost, can anyone tell me where a good place to advertise is and tell me roughly how much it would cost?

Well, there are a number of ways to advertise:

- Google AdSense
- Overture
- other PPCs
- banner networks
- hosting directories
- webmaster sites
- other sites of interest
- sponsoring other projects, getting extra exposure
- press releases
- etc

PS: Frank, no manually added signatures are allowed at HD. Please add your sig into special box of your user control panel.
 

Frank, ok, I cannot tell you where or how to advertise, since Artashes has done a good job of that already. ;)

However, I can tell you some generic prices. These range from $200 per month to $200,000 per month, heh very generic eh? ;)
Anyhow - it depends. WHT makes min. at $200, HT makes min at $7.50

All companies depend and range from small to big numbers in advertising. I'm planning to do this years budget - tad late - and do it at $12,000 per year for advertising. It's not a lot, however it's better than nothing and I don't like spending so much on advertising, but prefer spending more on quality, service and network.


It really depends with you, however. If you're large, you may like to spend lots, although others simply spend as little as possible. It really depends per company as each has a diff. budget.
 
Also try hosting directories. Quiet a few are free and don't take too long to sign up at.

I think once you start looking at how much keywords you want to use cost, you will understand why it isn't worth it. Google has cornered the mass marketing approach by charging large amounts of money per click. I think they last time I looked at the keyword "web hosting" you had to set it at 8.00 per click to get any where. That is a whole month of hosting money just to get a click that 98% of the time will not convert into a sale.

Maybe if you can find some keywords that aren't used but have some good searchs per day, you might do well. But we had a hard time finding it.

Jason, well obviously not many companies can afford a click costing $8. But then there are hundreds who find a way to stay cost effective and make money on advertising.

Consider using more keywords. How much would you pay for "linux shared web hosting"?

According to Google right now, linux shared web hosting isn't searched on that often. Their estimate is less than 1/10th a click per day. linux hosting to be in the 4th slot is around $2 per click to get roughly 2 clicks per day. So I guess all in all you could be looking at spending $4-$10 per day just on one key phrase. that is $300 a month for just one keyword, I just think there is more cost effective ways out there to spend $300 dollars. Of course, I haven't found the magical solution yet either.

Try local advertising first. It's much more affordable. Many local business rather deal with a local web hosting company. They want somebody to talk to and who eventually stops by in their shop. You can also get higher prices from local customers.

Bartering is eventually another option to get customers who then spread the word (of mouth).

Participating in forums, preferably other than this one, with a well written signature can help a whole lot. As far as paid.. Google, ISPCheck..
 
as some people already said, try to get your host on all mayor web hosting directory is free exposure..
