Breezeland problems

The free host breezeland have been having a few problems recently and their site has been down for some time now.
I dont have an account but they sent out an email to their account holders regarding the problems (I have quoted it below)
I think it might be the end of breezeland, they seemed like quite a good free host.
They had a lot of spam sent from their accounts because they had the PHP mail() function enabled and this was abused. As you can see from the letter below, they claimed that their upstream cut them off because of spam being reported.

As you will know by now, Breezeland was the target of a major SPAM attack which began on Sunday 18th. This attack resulted in Breezeland being cut off from the network by its provider. We managed to get this particular issue resolved after a day of negotiations with our provider.

A few days later, we were to learn that ICANN, the world registrar of domains, had received complaints about the spam coming from the Breezeland server. ICANN then began proceedings to take down our domain name from its registry. This would have meant the end of the Breezeland.com name.

We were completely powerless to prevent all these events. However, we should never have allowed unrestricted use of the php mail function. You can rest assured that when we get back online, php mail function will stay switched off until a solution is found.

It would seem that those individuals who planned the demise of Breezeland.com came very very close to achieving their aims.

We would like to send apologies to all our members for the inconvenience caused. We are truly sorry that our negligence regarding the php mail issue has caused so much damage, not only to the Breezeland name, but also to the countless sub-domains that we host.

We are continuing to negotiate with ICANN and expect a result in the coming days.

A bit of good has come out of this whole experience though. At least now our members can see how far people are willing to go to bring us down. That at least shows us, and our members, that we must be doing something right.

For as long as we have the support of our members, it does not matter who may want to destroy the Breezeland project. Breezeland will not disappear. Breezeland is here to stay and we will always offer the best free hosting and much more.

Thank you for your support.
We will be back up in a few days. Bigger and better.

Breezeland Management.

I would like to see what is happening about breezeland and if its coming back or not.
What do you think?

I had no idea of a spam attack going on.
Hope they can get there stuff back up with out too many problems.
Thats a pretty bad way to go down.

DIdnt notice but there is now more info on breezeland.
Im afraid they have closed down their site and are no longer offering hosting
A lot o fpeople have accounts with them, the other big free hosts will be getting flooded with new requests now.

It is with deepest regret that we inform you that the webhosting companies Breezeland.com and Hostgroup1.com will be shutting down operations. We would like to advise all current customers to make arrangements to move their websites to other hosts.

If you bought a domain name from Breezeland.com or Hostgroup1.com you can have the domain transferred to a new registrar for $20. This charge will cover the transfer costs incurred. Go to the below web page to initiate the transfer of your domain name to a new registrar:

http://www.hostgroup1.com

This move is sincerely regretted but it is in the best interests of our customers that we shut down operations and that they move their domains and websites to other servers. It is no longer possible to provide a stable and reliable service and we regret to have to admit this fact.

Breezeland.com will possibly re-emerge with a better and more reliable service. Lessons have been learnt and everyone is wiser because of this experience. We pledge to our members to keep the Breezeland dream alive. We will be keeping members informed as to the latest developments through our newsletter.

Thank you to all Cleaders. You did a great job. Thank you to all other forum members too. Thank you for helping us try and achieve the mission.

We also would like to this opportunity to wish Distanthost.com the best in their endeavors. Perhaps you will carry on the flag.

Keep checking the Breezeland website for our new project… Coming soon.

Thank you.

Breezeland, Hostgroup1 management.

Please forward any question or requests to transfers@hostgroup1.com
