Choosing windows or Linux server

At the time of purchasing a hosting as first you have to choose the platform of the hosting like Windows and Linux. Generally Linux Hosting is far cheaper then Windows. but this is completely dependent on your website development if your site is built using ASP then you have to choose windows server and using PHP then you have to choose Linux server. Many windows server supports Linux also for this you have to read their manual or package includes.

You don't really have to choose Linux for PHP hosting, Windows can and does support PHP as well as linux.

We run PHP on Windows and it runs smooth. I personally dont like it... but it does work on Windows

I believe it does... I think you can get an ASP mod for it. I dont think it does .Net though.

You can get ASP for Apache, however most people read ASP as server side VBScripting, in which case no you can't run ASP pages written in VBScript on a Linux box. There used to be something called ChilliASP which was an implementation of ASP for Linux boxes with a licensed version of VBScript, not sure if you can still buy it though.

You could look at Mono for .Net on non-Windows platforms.
