Customer Service Software

I was honestly just planning to set up a database where I could add a few notations to accounts. Is there good low cost customer service software out there that would serve my needs. I might be thinking to small and too short term. I work with CRM at work and I don't find that most accounts really need that much space for lengthy notes.

Do you mean a billing or invoicing type software or a help desk type?

I run my billing and invoicing through PayPal so I guess that leaves Help Desk. I just want to be able to track issues and their resolution.
