You need to get traffic to make money, if you ca not get the traffic to come in and the people to click those ads you are not going to be making money so yes there is money in it but you need to do a lot of work to get the traffic and the clicks coming in.

This site adbrite.com might be helpful because they find businesses that would advertise on websites and these advertisers pay money that could be used to drive more traffic to the site.
