Music

I like it! Will be adding her to my Pandora list here tonight.

While I've got a few CDs of Jon Schmidt laying around here, it wasn't until the other day that I found "Steven Sharp Nelson". Turns out that Jon and Steven have been teamed up for years as "thepianoguys.com" - just some great stuff.

Favorite for Steven Sharp Nelson - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry4BzonlVlw

Favorite for both - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2xgLL52xds

When an artist can do what they do, that's when you know they're really good at what they do :)

I must say I did not expect that. Not only are they good, they seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. :)

Wow, they were great, Conor. You know, I very rarely listen to music, but I have found myself listening to more performances on YouTube lately.

Yeah, I'm a huge music guy - always have music playing somewhere whether it's CD's, pandora, youtube etc. The only NEW music I seem to listen to is on a country radio station - but a few commercials and they've lost me. I"m not a fan of the new "rock" (if that's what you want to call it) or the R&B scene. Give me 70's classic with a mix of 80's and I'm a happy guy I guess. :)

As for ThePianoGuys, I've been very impressed with their stuff over the years. If you're ever looking for out of the normal type stuff, check out AfroCelt (I'm sure you've heard their music in sountracks on movies and never knew it), Great Big Sea (bagpipes & fiddles) and Brother (type "brother tribal rock" - bagpipes & didgeridoo).

I'm usually listening to the OBSCURE stuff, banjos and heavy metal, Kentucky Headhunters & Nashville Superpickers (Eagles, AC/DC, U2 - all on banjos & mandolins). Or Richard Cheese (all your favorite songs sun as a Vegas Lounge Act) :)

Richard Cheese - Ice, Ice, Baby - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2kGcpZ98pg (he's very much a like it or hate it composer).

Of course, for laughs, and great entertainment, nobody beats Victor Borge in my book!

Where did you ever find Richard Cheese - Ice, Ice, Baby? ThePianoGuys were really impressive.
I went to a concert at Jefferson Barracks back in 2001 and heard probably the best blues guitarist ever, and I don't remember his name.

Of course, I've seen Chuck Berry perform live at his restaurant in the Delmar Loop here. He and his daughter can rock!

Never got the chance to see Chuck, but I did get to see BB King a few years ago. I wish Omaha had a better music scene. It's one of the few things I miss about Los Angeles and surrounding area. For decent music within driving distance I have to go to Kansas City or Denver :(

I listen to all kinds of music, and there were a few names that inspired and impressed me in the past few months. I will probably single out a couple:

Yukimi Nagano (vocals) and the band she is a member of called "Little Dragon". Here is a short and sweet version of "Feather": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMbzHCAyvAo

I am big on jazz, I've seen many of the fantastic musicians live. But since 2010 Chano Dominguez' "Flamenco View" performance I thought it would be a while since I'll get impressed again, by anyone. But recently I discovered a new jazz crush: Brad Mehldau, a pianist in his early 40s who is one of the most compelling musicians I've listened to in a long time.

These two artists would probably be my two biggest picks of last year.

Chuck will be performing at Blueberry Hill on the Loop this March 12th - still rockin' at 85 and don't let his age fool you - he can flat play the guitar.

Loved it. Also liked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEI3ygPsKX8 from the same band. :agree:

Yukimi is great all around. I discovered her after this live performance on Dave Letterman with Gorillaz, her artistic side intrigued me. So I started listening to more of her stuff specifically and learning more about the band and her personally. I wasn't very surprised to find out she had more jazzy roots. But I was shocked to find out it was her singing the famous Summer Sun song I've heard dozens of times before over the years. This girl can sing jazz, 'aight. :D

If you haven't had a chance to see Richard Cheese in concert, it's quite the experience. I don't know if he tours as much as he used to, but it's a hilarious show (yet probably vulgar to most people...definitely very R rated). You don't want to be an attractive woman near the front of the stage unless you want to be called out or sung to by Richard.
