Just got the following email from our DC providers... sounds like it's relevant to the rest of the world too....
Redbus Interhouse would like to comment on the current Solar Flares
(also known as geomagnetic storms) from the sun.
These solar flares started at approximately 6am GMT today with a S3
Solar radiation Storm. S3 level storms have very limited effects,
however some single events may be experienced with memory and noise.
NOAA forecasts have warned of a 50% chance of a S5 level storm within
the next 24/48 hours. S4-S5 level storms can, among other things
render Satellites useless and completely black out high frequency
communications and navigation. This is predicted to affect
communication networks including satellite and wireless technologies
throughout the world, along with possible interference to power grids.
Taking this into account we at Redbus Interhouse have run additional
tests on all of our generators / UPS systems, to do all we can to
ensure that in the unlikely event of a power outage caused by these
geomagnetic disturbances that you will continue to receive the same
service expected without any interruption to your power supplies.
Although we at Redbus Interhouse have tested all our physical systems
vigorously, as a neutral provider we cannot insure third party
service, satellite or network providers. We would recommend that for
your own protection that you consider backing up any important data
that may be effected and have any relevant support staff on standby
throughout the Solar Storm.
Should you wish for any of the onsite technicians to assist in helping
with the backups please contact the network operations centre for the
site your equipment is housed.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to
contact me on the below details.
