[Thehostingnews] Web Hosting Provider, Mosso, Selects Hyperic for Virtualized Infrastructure

San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - November 6, 2007 - Clustered hosting provider, Mosso, Ltd., has integrated the services of multi-platform, open source systems management firm, Hyperic HQ Enterprise, across all of its production systems, to create a single virtualized infrastructure.

According to the company, in less than three months, the deployment empowered the operations team to deliver better customer service while growing their install base dramatically, all without adding additional headcount.

Mosso powers over 30,000 web sites, many of which are high-profile. The company processes approximately two billion requests per month. To handle such scale, the Mosso system is based on a cross-platform, clustered-computing architecture that is virtualized using VMware ESX Server for high availability.

With the goal of bringing scalable and highly available infrastructure to all companies, Mosso relies heavily on virtualization from VMware to manage the growth of its customer's web sites and easily relocate resources to match demand with availability. Despite its benefits, the architectural complexity created by the virtual environment created high management costs. Mosso needed an IT management system that could keep pace and provide visibility into both its virtual and physical machines. In June of 2007, the company turned to Hyperic.

Jonathan Bryce, Co-founder of Mosso remarked, ''Making reliable and scalable infrastructure easy to consume is our calling card. Our customers count on us to alleviate infrastructure issue which can adversely affect their business. Hyperic helps us to keep our team a step ahead of potential problems so issues can be resolved before they ever impact our customers.''

Hyperic's services are designed to allow companies like Mosso to quickly view performance metrics and events across virtual hosts and in context with their physical performance of the host hardware together. This holistic perspective enables an operations team to pinpoint application-level problems, and correct them before they become issues, rather than simply shuffling application services to less busy hosts, where they could become problems later.

Javier Soltero, CEO of Hyperic added, ''With complex infrastructures, and their use of emerging technologies like virtualization, Mosso and companies like it face some of the most daunting management challenges in the industry. Our product was built from the ground up to manage applications. This means putting infrastructure, virtual or otherwise, in context with business performance. This powerful perspective is proven with customers like Mosso to maximize their websites and web applications performance, instead of wasting time and energy trying to keep the IT infrastructure up and running.''

Additional key benefits of Hyperic HQ Enterprise include its ease-of-deployment, task automation, and sophisticated alerting capabilities, which not only improves a company's service levels, but does so without taxing the company's administrators.

Mr. Bryce added, ''If I had to grow my IT team by 60 percent every three months just to keep up with our traffic growth, the business model simply would not scale. We need our people to be working on projects to advance the platform, not on routine maintenance. Hyperic has helped enable us to focus on our platform. They have been a great partner and the support we've gotten has been phenomenal.''

Mosso continues to expand its use of Hyperic, and plans to deploy Hyperic HQ across the remaining development servers by the end of the year.

Hyperic HQ's portal provides system administrators with a complete perspective of the performance and availability of their VMware virtualized environments. Equipped with the unique ability to analyze performance metrics from the physical hardware, VMware software, and all the operating systems, software and services of the guest virtual machines, Hyperic HQ provides what it terms is the only complete performance picture of VMware environments in the market.
