I've noticed recently there seem to be a much larger amount of domains that are somewhat long being used than what I noticed before. Do you believe that a long domain name can have a negative impact even if it is something memorable? I'm looking to purchase a few, one for a blog in particular and the domain I had chosen initially is somewhat long. Any thoughts?

Long domains with many hyphens look quite spammy to me, especially in search engine results.

If it's a proper name, you can consider purchasing the full version and an abbreviated one.

I have noticed the same. I think all the good, short ones are gone. It does create a barrier for people to return to your site if it is hard to remember.

May be good if you are using "advertising slogans" in the domain name.

I think if the name flows, it's fine - within reason.

I think long domains won't create a good impact on the visitors. Even if they are in the form of the sentences or slogans, they will be ignored by the visitors and the visitors won't be very happy to visit the website as they might have to enter the domain in the browser and they won't feel good if they have to type a very long domain

damn...that is a long domain. I could not remember it and wouldn't go back to the site.

If I see an especially long domain in the results of a search, or anything with more than one hyphen, I instantly get the exact same feeling I get when I find that a spam email has somehow found its way into my regular inbox. That's not the sort of feeling I would want directed toward my own websites, so I keep the names short.

IMO it still good especially if you've a branded website and you're just using that domain name to brand your site using your trademark slogan, you can use that site for placing the coupon/discount and latest offers there.

Example for Nike slogan Justdoit....
Nokia: ConnectingPeople....
Motorola's slogan... IntelligenceEverywhere....

They look spammy to me anywhere they're mentioned, not just search engine results.

Well, webhosting-business.com is a domain I got. I really don't feel it's spammy as it's a descriptive name. If it's something that is just thrown up like get-me-an-iphone.com, it could be deemed as spammy. Just my honest opinion for what it's worth.

For long domains you should always use hyphens or have a redirect where you register a bunch of domains that are similar.

Hmm Okay here's a 2nd thought, I think I'll go against long domains since they seem to have a negative impact on most of you. Do you have objections to things other than .com? What about .net .org or similar?

Try your best to get a dot-com. Use other extensions as a last resort. (Unless, for instance, you are in the UK where the .co.uk extension has become fairly well known.)
