Every community has its heroes.
HostingDiscussion.com has many.

But how do we seek them out? How do we give proper recognition to these individuals? This contest is designed to do just that - to celebrate members who add incredible value to our resource through their knowledge, industry experience and ability to help other members.

At the end of each month we will screen through our top 10 posters for the month (4th column titled "This Month") and then decide who the winner is.

Keep in mind that this is NOT a posting contest, but a CONTENT contest. The 1st ranked member is not automatically assumed to be the winner. It can be the 4th, 7th or 10th member who we find to be the most helpful and throughout during any monthly term.

While important, the posting rank is just an indicator of your activity and a way of qualification. However, the decision is based on the quality of your posts, not their quantity.

Finally, the MOST VALUABLE MEMBER OF THE MONTH will be named and contacted to receive a secret monthly prize, along great attention, recognition and praise from the rest of our community.

Most importantly, please remember that this contest is meant to be a fun event, with only one beneficiary - you!

SMALL PRINT: 1. As contest progresses, we might make certain changes to how the contest will operate and be held. 2. Hostage-taking, bribe-giving techniques will not work.

So even if you don't have anywhere near the top number of posts, you can still be eligible (or is it legible...you know what I mean...) for the contest?

We look at Top 10 posting members in a given month, but award only that person who has actually contributed value.

For example, poster #1 might have made 100 posts in a month while poster #10 only 10 posts. However, if poster #10 has contributed a lot of valuable knowledge, gave the best advice and helped other members at the best possible level, while the poster #1 made a ton of brief, repeated, insight-lacking posts - then it is the poster #10 who is going to be celebrated. :)

It is the QUALITY that matters, not the QUANTITY.

What parameters you use to decide " Knowledgeable contribution" and who will decide this ?

As usual like other forums moderators? or you are using third party or just going for voting by the users?

Parameters were defined in the first post. We are looking for quality contribution, not quantity and no fluff. We are looking at the depth, insightfulness and knowledge a member shows. Previous winner can be used as perfect example that fits this criteria.

I can give you an additional example. Take this thread for example:

There is a difference between these answers:

As far as who gets to decide? I personally select the winner. Primarily for the reason of saving time for everyone, as all our team members, as well as myself dedicate themselves mostly on day-to-day issues and development projects.

User nomination/voting usually results in popularity contests, and that's not what this particular contest is about.
Using a third party would just be a little too much. This is not a lottery, but a value-added service that is designed to compliment community experience - not serve as sole purpose for being here. Finally, it is supposed to be just fun.

It sure seems like ya know what you're doing....geez I read through the posts in this thread and I was kinda like, "wow...I wish I knew what I was doing as much as he does..."

How about an active member (not a current moderator/advisor/director :shh: nor a bot) selected simply based on total post count? :D

So you decide the winner? Are you reading all the threads by the top posters and decide this ? Great work dude. Hope you are spending lot of your time in this forum. The competition will heat up if many active posters are there, this is lagging, try some more to get more people in the forum.

Yes to both. :)
I might not read all the posts, but I certainly screen through all of them. When I see someone posting great stuff, it usually catches my eye within a few posts, and I narrow down to those members.

this is lagging, try some more to get more people in the forum.

Regarding February, I got quite sick so could not announce the winner on time, however, I hope to announce the February 2009 winner within the next 48 hours. I have all the info I need. :)

What do you mean by "try some more"?

"try some more" means try some other way or take some efforts to get more number of peoples to visit the forums.

It is good to see that you have nice screening power :)

Shucks, I was going to take you hostage Artashes, thanks for letting me know it wouldn't help if I did. :)

James, if you do intend to, then don't forget to bring some drinks, so at least we make it a small party.
