Just signed up with a NEW (one thread) web hosting forum this afternoon, and found out they moderate all threads and posts before posting them. How long do you think they'll be around?

Wow, it will certainly take them a lot more time to grow, but they'll be around for as long as they can afford to moderate content lightning fast.

Having said that, a lot of users want answers to their questions without unnecessary delay. Its obviously great for quality control, but I don't see a point really in scanning every single post - all you need is good proactive monitoring in place and reliable community that reports spam on the forum.

Gotta luv it - I posted one thread and one reply 41 minutes ago and it still isn't approved. I guess the moderator isn't out of school yet? Update - my thread just got approved - took 53 minutes.

Man, that seems like a lot of work! Maybe the need some more mods.

I really don't see how that will work (I wouldn't register for that forum, personally). Like Artashes mentioned, many of the people that will post aren't going to wait around an hour, just so their post is finally approved.

I've made a mental note to take a look back in a month just to see if they're still online, and if so, how many threads and posts they have.

Curious - does this new forum use vBulletin?

I think they can perfectly exist, like many others, but it just won't lead to fast growth. Its difficult enough to make active forums more active.
Should they get more active, they will simply just start losing their mind moderating every single post.

What are the chances they don't?

I guess they will last long , as they are new they are concentrating on the quality of the forums , once they get good results and high traffic, they will stop doing it.

Yeah that "Total Members" can be misleading. I remember when we had our forum we had something like 2200 members but so many of them were 1 posters or worse 0 posts as the posts were removed for spamming. Eventually we trimmed it down and had less than 300 legit users but almost no activity as we didn't promote it. Much prefer to visit forums and run them hehe

Also, people starting up forums can pay people to post or even register a bunch of usernames and post under different names to make it seem like there's activity. There's nothing inviting about a "dead" forum.

Or one that's overrun with spam or under moderated.

They should implement that for the advertising sections, not the general sections.
