This was my second purchase on eBay. I have been shopping around for a DVD "Startup.com". After browsing through some electronic stores and visiting local retailers, there was nothing below $14.95 mark. Since I already watched the movie in the past, and the condition of the DVD didn't matter, I decided to turn to eBay.

In a matter of minutes I located the needed DVD, with a starting bid of only $0.01. With only 4.5 hours left and current bid of $1, I decided to go for it. The last minute of the auction... I bid $5 (my price ceiling), but the smart system places $1.25 on my behalf. "Excellent!!" - I scream, jumping up and down, and starting to worry my girlfriend... So I proceed to paying for shipping - $4.95 - so the total comes to $7.20 in Canadian dollars.

The next day I verify with the seller the status and he confirms: will ship within 24 hours. Then... silence. First week goes by, second week is almost over. I email the seller. No response. Third week is coming to end - I email to the seller, and I am angry. He responds, and basically tells me: the DVD was shipped, so its Canada Post that sucks. I love Canada, so I will never blame Canada Post for anything - I know they work well, and my post office mailman is a good person who I know.

A couple of more days go by... St Valentine is here, and my lovely girlfriend decides to end my torture by getting me the DVD from a local retailer! I love it. The movie is here! I unpack, check - it works very well.

A couple of days later the biggest surprise comes knocking on my door - my $1.25 DVD has arrived. Not only it has arrived, it was a brand new DVD in excellent condition... "*&%# !(* !#!)*&^% #&! $!* & $ %_@$( &@#!^", - passes through my mind - "Should the seller didn't cheap out on the shipping (price on envelope was $1.70, so I assume $5 would have bough me faster shipping), I would not have been stuck with two DVDs".

Being fair and all, I proceed with leaving my review to the seller: "Very slow delivery, even though paid more for shipping. However, good condition."

My gut was telling me all the way - probably scam, but a $7 risk was worth it. But it was really an amazing purchase - a brand new DVD for this price - how do they do it?

Best,

It was probably stolen in all honesty. My better half wanted the Martha Inc movie (was decent, even funny) and I got it off eBay for about $10 shipped, but it arrived within a week It was brand new, still in wrapping. I'm just guessing they either work at the outlets, or in a shipping facility.

John, my DVD was also sealed, and it was clearly in the brand new condition.

The seller has nearly 4000 sales, and always have stock of similar movies in sale. I would seriously doubt that he is able to steal DVDs in those numbers without anyone noticing.

Best,

I love that movie, A. I've seen it a couple of times, and every time I watch it, I get something new out of it.

So now you have 2 DVDs. If you want to sell one, let me know - I'll take it off your hands.

Vito

Huh, well - there goes that theory.

Vito, the movie is currently being screened by team members of my newly formed company. Once they watch it, I will send it to you free of charge.

I watched it a couple of times myself, and just like you, there is always something new to note. I gave it to an acquaintence once to watch it, but he never returned the DVD. Being polite, I will never ask for a DVD back (or something of same nature/value such as DVD), but I hate it when it happens.

Artashes, that's very nice of you to offer to send it for free, but I won't accept it unless you let me pay you for it. My intention was to help you recover your cost on one of the DVDs, as well as buy a copy for myself.

Sure... the $1.25 came heavy on my wallet.
Plus, I didn't get you anything for St Valentine's yet, so its a great opportunity for me to improve our relationship.

Grrrrr.

Oh well, you're going to force me to guess an amount and send it to you. That's OK.

Haha Vito - but I'd pay more than $5 for shipping!

Just about the ONLY good thing about having "that which disables me" is ... the memory dysfunction that comes along with it.

I have somewhere over 300 videos & DVD's in my "library" ... and most times ... when I watch a movie ... no matter how many times I might have watched it before ... its like watching it for the first time. I might remember bits & pieces of a movie ... but normally I will not remember at least 95% of it.

So ... although I lend my movies ... I never sell them or give them away :-)

There was a store in town selling "cheaper than dirt" DVD's. They got raided and in the back of the store they had all the equipment to burn off multiple copies of a DVD, print the covers and cellophane seal it.

Maybe what you got is a "pirated" version ... or an import from Singapore which is still pirated but by different people ;-)

Would explain the cheap cost of a new product.

Peter

Peter, I lived in Russia for 18 years, and I can tell when a CD/DVD is pirated (you can buy any program/music cd/movie for less than a $1). You can tell by the quality of paper used inside, packaging, the media itself... This is a terrific copy - nothing, and I mean, nothing is even close to suspicious. Its identical to the $20 DVD I got for St Valentine day... There is just nothing right now that can explain the low price. Sure some DVDs he is selling are used, but then he explains it in the description: Condition: Good, like New". This one was promised to be Brand New, and it is!

Best,

Perhaps the seller is in bed with the UPS guy that delivers the DVDs?

I don't know Art, unless these sellers have discovered some sort of wormhole or black magic, I guess they're either selling at a loss, or it's a REALLY, REALLY good pirated version?

Or...cloning!
