Probably an easier question to answer during pre-Google times, but nevertheless a relevant question today.

Yahoo! directory submission costs $299 (for non-adult websites) and unlike their old $199 one-time fee, the new and larger fee is recurring annually.

The directory is slim and there are good chances your website might get noticed, but I am interesting in learning whether you see this submission as a good deal or a waste of marketing dollars.

Will your site be listed higher in search results? Will your PR increase due to the listing?

Best,

dam, that is a pretty large some of cash to pay annually. I will look into it.

So used to be the saying... that a link from the Yahoo directory gave a significant boost in rankings, especially if the right keywords were present in the link. But that was back when DMOZ was also quite important in Google's vision. I don't know if Yahoo plays much of a role these days.

Every link counts, but a link on a page with tens of links... I doubt it's value is that high. Also, it depends on the PR of the page your site ends up on.

This depends on your search engine positioning, if you are happy with it then I'd say don't bother.
The benefit of a Yahoo listing is diminishing and a site that has 20,000 members could probably do much better with a competition.

Why not offer a $300 prize draw which only needs a member to invite a friend to get in the draw, run it for a month or two before drawing it and hey presto, many new members!

Repeat at will

It is really expensive, just spend some time with a good marketing person and you'd be fine without it.
