Develop good and informative content, update it on regular basis and have external links from seo friendly sites pointing to it.

I use this software to submit all my sites to all the search engines:
http://www.axandra-web-site-promotio....com/index.htm

And It does a pretty good job to start.

But of course, without a good content, meta tags, important external links, giving updates to your site, a nice SEO optimization of your site, you wont get much traffict from Search Engines

Meta tags is the first place to start. Make sure you have lots of keywords and a good description. Then use software like listed above to submit to search engines.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think google tends to ignore meta tags although is always good to have them.

Another good thing is to put main keywords within <h1> (top <h1> of the page best) and <title> tags. If you are not happy with the default look of h1 headings, use css to customize it. Using same css file on all of your website pages will also have an influence on search engines as avoids repetetive and redundant formatting tags being placed all over your site.

If external links that link to your website have keywords, your site will be better ranked by search engines, but be careful and don't abuse it as you can also get penalized. A clear example on this last one is the "miserable failure" search on google... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...re&btnG=Search

SEO is the best way to do that but dont get into doing black hat SEO because thats hurts when google knows about it and dont use dynamic link back service because they never are fruitfull. Try mailing webmasters to link back to you.

SEO is the way to getting at top in search engines but its not the ultimate way to get traffic . if u have good quality content what users are looking for then you will never have to do any kind of seo . they return everytime to your site if u have good content to give them

Having good quality content, daily updates, keywords, meta tags, external links -- I believe all of them are important if one is really determined to do his best in the SEO of his site. However, I agree with mtajim that updates & quality content which creates traffic is the first thing that must be achieved.
