How do you use eBay for marketing your company?

Does anyone here use eBay to market their company and if so how? I saw on a forum someone listed eBay as one of the cheapest ways to advertise/market along with Adwords.

I am not aware how eBay- an online auctions site would help you to market your company.

Simple...You can sell your services just like anyone else does with a BUY NOW option, or you can do a Classified Ad (directs them to your site for sale). I use eBay and I've seen HostGator.com do this, also.

Hope that helps.

I've done this back in the day when I was reselling servers about 5 years ago and it works if you have the right marketing on the page. There are a lot of people that visit ebay to see what bargains there are and a lot of people willing to purchase it.

Even if you don't sell anything on eBay, it doesn't hurt to have the brand exposure. At the same time, it also depends on your pricing strategy, so it won't work for everybody.

Not on eBay yet, but I wouldn't rule it out.

We use ebay for selling hosting and it has worked well for us. Like RightServers said, it can't hurt! My marketing strategy is just to saturate the space as much as possible, to take advantage of every opportunity to expose the brand, while being respectful of potential customers.

Well I've thought about ebay, but the thing that has put me off is that I've heard a lot of cowboys* use it so thought it was getting down into the gutter.

I might have to rethink that.

Hi!
I can't see ebay being a useful place to market hosting.

Ebay is a horrible place to market it. Only scam hosts are there.

Bottom line... scam hosts could market anywhere. What really matters is how you treat the customer when they sign up with you.

i.e. if you were to market on E-bay and started to get signups and they left you good reviews and started to build up a name, you could in essence legitimize that marketplace for hosters. Just my 2c.

That statement is 100% WRONG..eBay is probably one of the best places to market ANY business. And, there are no more scams in eBay than they are in the vast open space called the internet. As I said before in this thread, I see HostGator.com do this reguarly and they are by no means, a scam.

I agree, Ebay is one of the best sites to market any business. It's up to you on how you establish yourself there and prove to everyone else that you're not a scam.

Ebay could be nice but as a temporary solution rather than long term marketing plan. For example if you are selling hosting accounts, instead of a couple of sales to be made via some web portals and listings, you are recommended stressing on the better options like building quality links for your website and optimizing its SEO ranks and scores because search engines are the main traffic sources.

The thing about marketing is that there are truly no limits on how one can market their company or themselves. With ebay customers, they are basically looking for the great deals and if you can offer better deals then your competitors why not use ebay to market your company and or services.
