I am curious, do bookmarking services actually work? I am interested in buying 50 bookmarks but curious to see if it is work it. I saw an ad about someone doing it for $3.00 and lots of reviews about the person so not afraid of it being sketchy.

But, am curious about your thoughts on this.

I'm not to sure on it myself. I've seen a lot of reviews about such services but never tried it. I guess social bookmarking would be adding your site to places like delicious, digg, propeller, del.icio, fark, reddit, etc.

Have you tried fiverr.com? There are many gigs there offers any kind of bookmarking services for $5. I have tried once on fiverr and it is good.

Social Bookmarking is good to increase traffic but not for PR as most social bookmarking sites are no follow. Besides it also depends on the users "power" on the social bookmarking sites he is posting your links to.

Personally doing experiment on my other personal sites i found bookmarking is really good step for search engine optimization. I would suggest you to do it manually so that you can learn how it works and what is its impact and why its better than directory submission.

Well you will find your your bookmarked url as no follow in many sites and others do follow because when its in upcoming news and waiting admin approval your link will be no follow but once its approved it will be converted to do follow.

Its not hard to find dofollow bookmarking sites but always choose high pr bookmarking site that means 3+ PR because submitting on 0 or 1 pr doent makes any sense and it will be just a addon to your optimization but submiting on a high pr site can really help your website really rank well soon.
