High load averages..

What is the highest load averages you've ever seen?
Today, Jonathan and I have witnessed up to 7x higher than our previous seen record.. below is the actual reply from SSH:

$ uptime
4:21PM up 11:56, 12 users, load averages: 74.19, 69.89, 71.83

One of our customers boxes hit 800 a few days ago as it run out of memory. Now that was high. Biggest I've seen is about 4000 but that was on a machine with 1024 CPUs

Yea, I was at 400 about 10 days ago becuase somebody's script went wild. But anything over 3 in my book is bad.

There are some scripts out there that will watch your server load and kill any thing going above the limits
