I have a lot of content on my site, it is an e-commerce site. Security is important. Do I need a dedicated server? Where can I get one.

Never heard of them.

Do you NEED a dedicated server? That's really something that will need to be determined. Saying that you have an ecommerce site doesn't automatically mean you need a dedicated server. *IF* you got a dedicated server, you'll be paying around $150 for the server - $50 for management - $30-50 for server backup solution - and various other tasks and/or fees to secure the server.

If you're only starting out, a decent host that has experience in eCommerce would be a good start. Determining what software you're using for the eCommerce can also determine which host is a good fit.

What are your hosting needs? How much bandwidth do you need? How many visitors? What type of software are you using? What is your budget?

Depends on how much traffic you're receiving or expecting? I think even a VPS plan with ecommerce setup may meet your requirement.

Hi,

If your just going to run a small number of sites which dont take up too many resources a reseller or a VPS would be reasonable.. for VPS id recommend hostforweb.

good luck!

What is your current usage? Do you know how to manage a dedicated server? If you can't manage a dedicated server and still want it then go for managed. You could also get a management service such as platinumservermanagement or webbycart.

It depends on how popular your website is. If you're just starting, you would probably be fine with a small shared account or VPS. If you are already established, then I would recommend buying a dedicated server.

If you have more traffic on your site I will suggest a dedicated server.

Its much better in performance than a VPS server.

By the way whats your budget?

This depends on whether you're storing transactions on your server. If so, you need to be PCI compliant.

I would suggest you use a Dedicated Sever. With Dedicated Servers comes extra safety features. There are many places online to buy a dedicated Server.

Well unless your site has already been established and you are already filled with visitors then yes you should get a Dedicated Server. If you are now starting off, shared package would work fine. If you plan to accepts credit cars you would need a SSL certificate. That's all.

It is good to go with a dedicated server for an ecommerce site since it offers high level of security, freedom and reliability but it also needs more maintanence

Dedicated is a good option. You wont share the resources with anyone and will have dedicated IP's, also the security and management is 100% in your hands
