Hi,

This is a question both to users and web hosts. How many of you guys would use/provide HA VPS plans, mirrored from different geographical location?

!!! Please note that I do not mean a CDN!

Not very many people apparently. I've never done it but it sounds interesting.

Well, I'm sure that if a number of web hosts start promoting such service, many site owners will be interested.

@HostColor - what would you say would be a reasonable price for HA VPS plans, incrementally from what we're accustomed to currently.

Good question Steve. I think it depends of the virtualization platform and the of course of the resources. I can answer in percents. It should be 25% - 40% more expensive than a price of 2 different separate virtual servers.

We have been using OnApp to provide VPS and the app comes with HA option. We host only on a single DC and doesn't do multiple geographical location mirroring. Unless its a requirement for a client, i think HA within a single DC would be more than sufficient.

I agree that HA within a single DC is sufficient for the majority of folks out there that want HA VPS.

Wouldn't this be extremely expensive to setup guys? I'm pretty sure HA within one DC would suffice for most. Offsite backups on the other hand are *money.* Definitely worth the investment.

There is no much demand on such support, and it will be easier to loose one of 20 clients who wants it than support him

Look - People wants own home locations or locations which is nearest from his home town.
So when this problem came up to us - We made some Survey and find out which location people most want ? Why? Where people buy most of servers - And we already bought those locations servers. And done.. We can provide now almost exactly people wants..
I suggest you guys do this too

This can be done, and if you have a need for it you will be making enough money to pay for the demand, if not then you probably don't need an HA solution. If you are connected to a backbone that is redundant and is only 1 or 2 routers away from the globe you should be fine. If you have a true need for HA in multiple geographic locations, I suggest you talk to a specialist in this area.
