Ok, so I'm a gamer and my new addiction is Tribes Vengeance which is cpu hungry like none other. My team's current server is a dual xeon 2.4..... we never imagined we would be cpu bound on this puppy. Sad to say, we are. Vengeance uses the Havok engine to do real-time physics server side and we are hitting 100% usage on whichever cpu is running the game process. Problem is that we are hitting this at 20 ppl in game when 32 ppl in game is the desired amount.



So I started checking and I found out that those xeons at 2.4 are 533FSB.... bleh.... but there is hope in the faster opterons and/or xeons @ 3.0 w/800FSB. So I started searching and couldn't find much of anything for either of those speeds.



What to do, what to do, anyone know a centrally located company with dedicated servers in that speed range that are ridiculous in price? We are shooting for sub $300..... we currently pay around $250 with the server we have.

any help is greatly appreciated.....

Our current server is from servermatrix.... they don't have any faster than 2.4 Xeons. We are now looking into their P4 3.2 GHz server. We can run two of those for about the same price as our dual 2.4 xeon machine. 3.2 w/800FSB should get us there... we hope.

they have P4's 3.2ghz 800Mhz FSB I got one myself from them.

Yeah.... we run Raven Sheild and Tribes 2 servers also so we really wanted to do all that on a single machine. Doesn't look like it is going to happen. We looked at the P4 3.2's and I think we might go for two of them, one to host the Tribes Vengeance server and the other for Raven Sheild and Tribes 2. Thanks for the help.
