Study shows data center growth to continue

In an annual study conducted by Digital Realty Trust regarding US data centers, 83 percent of respondents stated they had plans to expand its data centers in a year or two. 36 percent said they will expand this year, and 73 percent will add at least two more facilities.

Pacnet’s $300M data center network play

Pacnet, Asia’s telecommunications provider, has announced plans to invest over $300 million in building a data center network consisting of 10 DCs (all based in Asia), over the next three years. Previous reports suggest the company’s investment might go as high as $600 million.

Equinix launches two DCs in Germany

Equinix has launched two International Business Exchange data centers in Germany: Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. Both are part of the company’s 2007-2010 global expansion plan worth $1.4 billion. Equinix also plans to expand its Frankfurt-2 DC by an additional 8,202 square feet.

CoreSite to add footage to its Boston data center

CoreSite announced it will expand its Somerville, Massachusetts data center by an additional 120,000 square feet. The expansion of company’s Reston, Virginia data center, is scheduled to be complete by December 2010.

This week’s hosting news revolved heavily around the continued expansion of many companies and their data centers around the world, accompanied by news that an Energy Star rating metric for data centers is very close to completion.

Peak10 adds second DC near Atlanta

A second 10,000-square-feet data center has been added by Peak 10. Located in Norcross, Georgia, the cost of the expansion is estimated between $5 to 10 million. The company’s existing DC is roughly 60 to 70% full, so the delivered new space comes in time to accommodate the growing demand of its IT services.

GoDaddy builds new customer service center, hires 60 people

Domain registrar GoDaddy.com is expecting to open its new customer care center it is currently building in Iowa. The company plans to hire approximately 60 people (locally) in order to support the new customer service office.
